Don't let important data fall through the cracks

Businesses today cannot afford unprotected data. Losing key business information hampers productivity; creates application outages, delays projects, diverts resources and calls to the help desk, and harms businesses’ reputations with customers. And governments are increasingly requiring businesses to formally deploy data protection.

Often times the most valuable files are what users are working on right now. Being able to roll back to a specific point in time is necessary, rather than just going back to last night’s backup. Companies need sophisticated policy-based data management that enables them to focus on the data with the highest business value as well.

Although most companies have implemented solutions for protecting the enterprise data, data residing in workstations, laptops and file servers is notoriously under-protected – even though it amounts to 60 to 70 percent of all corporate data, according to some industry experts.

IBM Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files provides a real-time, continuous data protection solution for file servers and users-endpoints. Instead of waiting for a scheduled interval, Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files backs up your most important files the moment they are saved, in real time. What's more, it does this effortlessly and transparently, in some cases eliminating the backup window. You can specify as many as three target backup/replication areas for high-priority files to help you capture every save of a file when it occurs to help protect against corruption, file loss or system loss.

With IBM Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files, you can:

  • Protect important files continuously and in real time, without administrative intervention

  • Take advantage of rapid disk-to-disk protection and restore capabilities
  • Minimize the backup/recovery window
  • Achieve point-in-time-based recovery with the ability to roll back to arbitrary versions
  • Set options for high- and low-priority files
Multiple backup/replication targets (local disk, web, file server, NAS device, Tivoli Storage Manager)
  • Protect file servers and transient connected endpoints
  • Optimize recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO)
  • Retain data files for predefined lengths of time
  • Help control costs with increased user productivity
  • Easy to implement and transparently runs in the background
  • Set up and manage easily with a light footprint

Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files also:

  • Versions the separate copies of the files to facilitate date-based restore
  • Auto-manages the local backup target area as a pool with a configurable size, deleting old versions to make room for new versions
  • Enables you to specify a remote file server or Tivoli Storage Manager for off-machine protection when a user is connected, so real-time backup still occurs

Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files can be used with Tivoli Storage Manager and the Tivoli Storage Manager family of solutions for seamless, integrated and complete data backup and recovery for business continuity and resilience. Tivoli CDP for Files, along with Tivoli Storage Manager, provides additional enterprise-level capabilities, including off-site tape copies of data for long term vaulting, auditable enterprise disaster recovery plans, space management, and tape and media management. Continuous Data for Files also supports Microsoft Vista and is integrated with IBM Lotus Notes.

Business Results
Clients will benefit by reducing the operational costs of managing and maintaining backup hardware, software and the media the data resides on. Additionally all data is secured properly off site and available 24/7.
